PIC Shelter Dog Hugs Everyone He Meets And Waits For Someone To Adopt Him
Dogs are affectionate, and they love being around humans and receiving a treat and attention from their beloved humans. However, have you ever met a dog that loves hugging so much that he could do anything for a hug?
Meet Tanner, a super cute pup who lives at a local shelter in Texas. Tanner’s journey began when he was found wandering the streets of Houston. Rescuers rescued him and brought him to a city shelter, but his fortune changed when, after three weeks of waiting for someone to adopt him, he was placed on the euthanasia waiting list.
Then, along came Madeline Garvis Smith, a local dog volunteer with a big heart. When she met Tanner, she was in love with his never-ending affection and knew she had to do something.
“He was pure love; almost starved for attention,” said Garvis Smith. “Putting him back in his kennel was the hardest part, because I knew he was just so lonely. I meet a lot of dogs, but some just pull on your heartstrings more than others. Tanner was one of them.”
To help this poor little friend, Garvis Smith, who manages an Instagram account supporting shelter dogs, immediately created a post about Tanner’s situation. This pup needed a foster home quickly.
“People often tag rescues on social media asking for help, but I don’t think they realize that all rescues rely on foster homes,” Garvis Smith explained.
Tanner’s story then hit the radar of a local foster mom, who was more than happy to give him a temporary home. Not long after, the Animal Rescue Network of New England (ARNNE) stepped in and offered to take in Tanner when he was ready. Soon, Tanner was leaving the shelter behind, headed for safety.
“He was found hugging the staff members, saying bye to them!” Garvis Smith said.
Now, Tanner has a great time in his foster home, enjoying loads of playtime with his temporary family. Someday, he’ll make the journey to New Hampshire, where he’ll stay at ARNNE until he’s ready to find his forever home.
Garvis Smith is confident that one day Tanner will become someone’s perfect furry companion.
“Tanner is crate trained, house trained, dog- and kid-friendly,” Garvis Smith said. “[He] just wants a bestie to cuddle with for the rest of his days.”
